1. Enough material to practice and give a balanced 1-1.5 hour Ayurvedic Massage for mothers 1 day or more after normal childbirth or 7-10 days after C-birth and other fragile populations.
2. How to work safely using correct breathing and physical alignment and give a gentle, deeply therapeutic massage to achieve the most effective results, avoiding injury or discomfort for both practitioner and client.
3. Differences from Swedish massage you may have learned in massage school for the special conditions common to all birthing mothers.
4. Physical issues and contraindications for clients in the unique 6-8 week postpartum "Kayakalpa" window after birth.
5. How to combine essential oils applications for itches, stitches, pain, inflammation, aches and emotional support during the treatment and issues for appropriate use.
6. Valuable postpartum Home Spa Care protocols and self massage instruction; suggestions for mother and practitioner to best fit them into her rhythms of new motherhood.
This program trains the student in home spa care protocols from the ancient system of medicine called Ayurveda, designed for the unique conditions of the postpartum physiology. It provides basic Ayurvedic concepts involved in the safety and special needs indicating which therapies may be complementary or contraindicated from a massage therapist's repertoire. It will prepare you to support a mother's best care after childbirth in concert with an Ayurvedic postpartum doula's home care, or to support a later postpartum mother presenting with physical or emotional residue from poor postpartum recovery.
These practices will also provide valuable practice keys for massage with other very fragile populations such as elders, pregnancy, PTSD, sexual abuse survivors, and post cancer therapy clients with minor modifications. Please contact Ysha at 505-508-4219 if you have questions or concerns about participating.
You will need to bring:
* two pillows and a blanket
* 2 sheets, 2 normal sized bath towels, 2 hand towels and face cradle cover each day
* 3 cups massage oil, preferably some sesame and some sunflower, in 2 labeled shampoo sized squirt bottles.
* Wear loose, comfortable clothes, optional apron to protect them from oil
* We have a microwave and refrigerator if you bring food
* There are plenty of restaurants nearby
If you are traveling by air, you are not required to bring all the supplies.
